Subatomic Physics – Electron Spectrometer

The electron spectrometer consists of two Siegbahn-Kleinheiz lenses which can be operated together or independently and is used for measurements of conversion-electron from excited 0+ states.  Electrons are focussed by the lens from the target onto a Si(Li) detectors of up to 6mm thickness.  Measurement and simulations are underway to characterise the field and studies of short-lived isotopes also feature in the project.  The spectrometer will be coupled with the fast-timing array and other Ge detectors for measurements of excited 0+ states in Ge and Cr nuclei.

In-beam commissioning is planned in mid-2018 and the spectrometer is foreseen to be coupled to other facilities such as the K600spectrometer and tape station.
