The 20th of February to the 31st of March saw the community Interaction division of iThemba LABS partner with SAASTA in running science workshops at local primary and high schools. iThemba LAB`S fourth edition of the annual International Physics Masterclasses for high school learners is currently underway. These International Masterclasses give students the opportunity to become particle physicists for a day. During a Masterclass, participants work with data from experiments at CERN´s Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, under the supervision of physicists. Rachel Rayner, a science communicator from Australia presently doing volunteering work with SAASTA as part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program visited iThemba LABS. Rachel who has a physics background has spent the last six years working across various science communication organizations. School learner`s lecture earlier today at iThemba LABS: Delivered by Dr Sudesh Sivarasu, Senior Lecturer in the Division of Biomedical Engineering at UCT who received the 2016/17 TW Kambule-NSTF Award for Emerging Researchers.
