From the Director’s Board (21/02/2017)

The last two weeks were very dense in terms of the preparation for the future of our facility but also on our current scientific and technical activities. We would like to mention only a few highlights:

  • The preparation of the infrastructure to house the newly procured Tandetron accelerator at the Material Research Department has been advancing very well, and the installation schedule remains within the planned time line.
  • Our future project; the South African Isotope Facility (SAIF) has been presented to, and positively received by the NRF board. We are working now on producing the detailed document describing the motivations and objectives of the project as well as its cost in order to be proposed as the basis document for the NRF board to advance the motivation for the funding request. The director will soon have the opportunity to present the project to all iThemba LABS colleagues.
  • The process of preparation of our long range plan and priorities has been in motion in the past few months and will be completed at the end of February when every department will be delivering a first draft of their vision of their road map. As part of this process, we had the opportunity to organize a very rich and interesting workshop dedicated to the discussion of the future activities of the Medical Radiation Department.
